Timeshare scams result in thousands of consumers losing millions of pounds every year. The majority of these scams could have been prevented if organisations such as the Financial Conduct Authority had done a better job of policing the finance companies that facilitated the wide-scale misselling in the first place. However, they didn't, leaving a vacuum for criminals to prey on uncertainty. Trying to avoid timeshare scams isn't easy, but with our help, you'll stand the best possible chance.

Most timeshare scams follow and use the same patterns to extract victims' money. The initial cold call or email is designed to grab your attention.
This could either be scare tactics, where you are led to believe there is a problem related to your timeshare or 'bait and switch' tactics, which lead you to believe that you are owed money. You will then be encouraged to make a virtual appointment on Zoom, arrange for someone to visit you, or arrange to visit their offices.
"The story may differ, but the ending will always be the same."
Regardless of what is discussed with you, scammers will tell you a story to lead you to believe that they can fix the problem, which in most cases is fictional. The person before you is lying to your face because their only interest is moving your money from your pocket to theirs.
Most of the people working in the timeshare scam and sales sphere have chequered pasts. As such, they often use fake names and give themselves false titles. They are often brazen and, believe it or not, have recently been telling people they work for the UK Embassy in Spain!

Identification and recordings.
- Before engaging in any form of meeting, ensure you get the personal identification from the person you are dealing with. If they refuse to provide you with this information, do not proceed with the meeting. Take a copy or photo of this I.D. as it can be used in criminal proceedings.
- Record the interaction. This can be done either covertly or openly. Genuine people will have no problem being recorded, as they have nothing to hide!
- Get the individual to send you the offer in writing. Then, speak with your family and friends and seek legal advice.
